The state government on Monday announced the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme (CMSS), 2025, a flagship initiative introduced by Chief Minister Conrad K. Sangma, in the State Budget of 2025-2025.
The Scheme has been designed to expand access to higher education, promote academic excellence, and extend financial support to students of Meghalaya from Class XI up to PhD level, studying in recognized institutions within and outside the state.
Each eligible student will receive a fixed annual scholarship of Rs.6,000/- which will be disbursed directly into their Bank Accounts.
The CMSS is unique in that there is no income ceiling for applicants, ensuring that all deserving students domiciled in Meghalaya can benefit. Students pursuing regular courses in government, private, and nationally recognized institutions are eligible to apply.
To ensure a transparent and efficient delivery system, applications will be received only through the online mode. A dedicated web portal (https://meghalayaone.gov.in) will be live from 1st September 2025, from which date students can begin submitting their applications. Required documents include proof of Domicile/Identity (such as MHIS Card, MGNREGS Job Card, Epic, or PDS Card), the previous year’s marksheet, a recent passport-sized photograph, and a bonafide certificate from the Head of Institution.
Speaking in the launch of the Scheme, the Chief Minister stated, “Education is the foundation for the future of our youth. Through the Chief Minister’s Scholarship Scheme, we are committed to removing financial barriers and empowering the young people of Meghalaya to pursue their aspirations with confidence”.
The Education Department has urged all eligible students to apply online starting from 1st September 2025 and avail themselves of this opportunity.
